Four types of stamping operations
Release time:2023-04-17Views:1992

What are the types of precision metal stamping operations? Today, we will share with you the information about progressive-die stamping, transfer-die stamping, four-slider stamping and precision stamping.

1. Progressive-die stamping

A series of stamping stations are used for progressive die stamping, with metal coils sent to reciprocating stamping machines with horizontal feeding stamping dies. The die moves with the press. When the press moves downward, the die closes to punch the metal to form a part. When the press moves upward, the metal moves horizontally along the next station.

These motions must be accurately aligned as the parts are still connected to the metal strip. The last station separates the newly manufactured parts from the rest of the metal. Progressive-die stamping is an ideal choice for long-term operation, since the die can be used for a long time without damage, and this process has high repeatability.

In this process, each step involves different cutting, bending or stamping operationson the metal, so as to gradually achieve the required final product shape and design, improve efficiency and reduce waste.

2. Transfer-die stamping

Transfer-die stamping is similar to progressive-die stamping, but the part is separated from the metal during the initial processing stage and transferred from one stamping station to the next through mechanical transportation system (such as conveyor belt). This process is often used for large parts that need to be transferred to a different press for processing.

3. Four-slider stamping

Four-slider stamping, also known as multi slider or four-way stamping, is more suitable for processing complex parts that are curved or twisted. It uses four sliding tools instead of a vertical slider to shape the workpiece through multiple deformations.

Four-slider stamping is a very common type of stamping, as each slider can be installed with different tools. The cost is also relatively low and the production speed is also fast.

4.
Precision stamping

Precision stamping process is very valuable for providing high-precision and smooth edges. The precision stamping operations are usually completed on hydraulic or mechanical presses, or consist of three different movements:
1) The workpiece or workpiece material is clamped in place;
2) Performance of blanking operation;
3) Eject finished parts.

Compared to the pressure used in traditional stamping operations, precision stamping machines have higher working pressure, so this needs to be considered when designing tools and machinery.

The use of traditional tools avoids edge breakage, and the surface flatness may exceed that of other stamping methods. Due to its cold extrusion technology, precision stamping is a one-step process that reduces overall manufacturing costs.
